Welcome! Have a seat! Take off your shoes and try on a crinoline! Read on by candlelight or by computer screen...

Old Fashioned is a place where we can explore the intersection of fashion history, contemporary design, and personal style. I’ll be delivering a newsletter directly to your inbox every month comprised of my own historical research, beautiful images of clothing past and present, fabric samples from bygone wardrobes, outfit ideas, shopping suggestions, and commentary on contemporary fashion. Each newsletter will be a postcard from an era of fashion history.

Paid subscribers will receive one fashion history essay per month (see HORROR or HOW POLITICAL IS FASHION? for a sense of the scope of what I cover). They will also receive an additional send with outfit ideas from yours truly (check out my Copenhagen outfit diary here)! There will also be bonus content for paid subscribers: gift guides, research rabbit holes, interviews, and whatever else tickles our fancy (think MY CLOSET WRAPPED or AN ALPINE GIFT GUIDE).

Founding members will receive all of these lovely things and a super-special, thoughtfully designed, printed good (an homage to the original Old Fashioned format) mailed to their home to pore over in historically accurate, phone-free bliss!

Free subscribers will receive a short version of a monthly fashion history essay. All subscribers also receive weekly TRIMMINGS! roundups of relevant fashion news.

Your subscription will fund my research and access to images, and please know that I consider this opportunity to have my research supported to be one of the highest honours in the world. I’ve worked to get the cost of this as low as possible without compromising the quality of information I want to provide. It’s going to be kind of like buying a textbook on layaway, except the textbook is cute and funny and wants to help you put together an amazing outfit. I am so excited to have a place unbound by confines of academia and journalism to share my findings with you, as I have always found that an infinite well of inspiration lies somewhere between those two, in the space where past and present meet.

Love,
Ruby
